This 1970’s chambered triple stringer wood mini-gun is extremely light, maybe 5lbs. Eye stopper balsa grains. Great wall hanger, if I had only space. Need to upgrade and buy a bigger house soon. Natural Progression was out of Malibu, Ca.. I could not find much history on NP. If anyone can enlighten me, that would be greatly appreciated. I bought this from Pintail-Mike in a bulk purchase. I love my 70’s wood ! All original, almost 10 condition. (o) 9.5/10

I acquired this on E-Bay from another Long Board Collector Member. His name has slipped my memory, maybe Eric? But, i dig this mini-spear gun with it’s funky ass elongated glassed in fin. Kind of reminds me of a boomerang. I definitely feel who ever was picking this fin of choice at that point of time was 420. Striking red spray both sides, white bolt resin pin line, with a weird ass added leash plug at tail. All original, clean, clean, with minor pressure deck dents. (o) 8.5/10

There’s a story round dis surfboard, seems like it was traded for a full length RACOON coat. And it was’nt around a campfrire.
The 1st owner of this board was Skip ”Slip ” Smith an early 60’s North Shore lad, partner with Terry in Natural Progression (((((((((________ soon to follow #’s 2 & 3

My daughter is currently a student at HPU in Hawaii.
I have a Natural Progression Shortboard (from 1971-2) that I must get to her.
I have a terrific travel case but not a clue how to remove the fin.
She has a friend flying out to see her Dec. 2nd and would like to bring the board with her.
Any suggestions?? thank you so much
What you need to do is get a surfboard travel bag just long enough for the board. they come in 6 , 7, 8, 9 feet in length. so if the baord is 6’5″ then get a 7 foot bag. The fin? is it glassed in? if so, no problem, still can get into bag. If the fin can come out, unscrew it and pack fin into her lugage. Should be an easy fix to get it to Hawaii. Note: Depending on the Airline, for example United. They will charge you anywhere from $100-$200 for shipping the board, as bulk size luggage. You may want to ship it via DELTA Cargo which maybe cheapter $75-$100. ADvise Buggs

I rode Natural Progression surfboards in the seventies. Their top Shaper was Robbie Dick who now lives on the Oregon Coast. He would be a great source of information on this company.
The owner was a man named Terry Lukoff. The shop was located across the street from the Malibu Pier. Their top rider was Jay Riddle.
Still have a 6’7″ 18″ wide swallow NP from 1972 shaped by either Robbie Dick or Horsey or Phil Becker.
Bought from not the Malibu shop but a smaller second shop off PCH in Santa Monica or Pacific Palasaides.Was a real breakthrough board for me at the time.

the shop was possibly off of chautauqua blvd in PP. think. The board is a beauty 6-7 grey bottom, red pin stripe on clear deck, single fin. I think Phil Becker shaped it. great shaper, still have two or three of his boards.
Does anyone know about the decals that NP used. MY buddy has an old NP and on the bottom there’s a decal that says ” Malibu Surf Center” I was wondering if these boards were for rentals or something.
Dean Edwards board with “the mad jap” trying to find out the history on it. It’s my father in laws board who was a surfer in 70-80s. It’s beat up bad and he was going to toss it and he broke down and cried so I told him I would keep it at my house.
Also I’m looking to see if it’s even worth fixing. The plan was to find the right people to fix it and was going to gift it to him on Xmas. This board won’t ever hit the water again
I rode Natural Progression all thought my early teens. That Balsa was rare. Becker was shaping for Rick Surf Boards prior to his stint @NP. I had his model. It was a rounded pin. He may have shaped that one you are showing. The shop was located first on Wilshire near 11th st. Terry Lucoff (Zucoff) was partners with Skip Smith. They moved the shop into the SM Canyon on West Channel Road. Jeff Hackman and Jay Riddle both rode as pros for them. NP came out of the Wilken Surfboard Era. The legendary Robbie Dick Carved his career out at NP. One of the west coast greatest sharpers. That very well might have been his shape also hard to say.
