“My shaping career began at age 13, when I got an electric planer for Christmas. There was no such thing as Pro Surfing in those days, and if you surfed, the dream career was to work in the surfboard industry. Only surfing in a few of the World Tour events gave me time to hone my shaping skills. During this time I was fortunate to work with, and learn from, some of the world’s greatest shapers, including Geoff Mc Coy, Ben Aipa, Jim Richardson, Tom Parish, Gerry Lopez, Spider Murphy, Reno Abellira and Dick Brewer. Spending a month working with Dick Brewer in Hawaii at his Chuns Reef shaping room in the winter of 1976/77 was when it all gelled. I shaped the original Free Ride Twinfin during the winter of 1977 in Newcastle. It became a ground-breaking surfboard, lifting performance surfing to new levels. I’m still based in Newcastle, Australia, where I was born, and I have a retail Surfshop and surfboard manufacturing business. My time is mostly spent mowing foam, and trying to get some water time.”

This is my favorite MR Board in my collection, a 1970’s MR BOLT! Also, paid the most for it out of the bunch. But again, I have not seen to many MR Bolts all original floating around out there, have you? Classic yellow on red with black bolt combos. Glassed in twin fins, minor fiberglass damage around the base. Cash Jack acquisition. (o) 7.5/10

Cool 80’s Tri-fin with third fin trailer box. Channel bottom, bitchen orange deck with green rails. Super man lams front and back. Not sure what the hand thing is all about. Any thoughts out there? Some pressure dents on deck from wave riding, but overall nice board. I bought this out of Australia. Had it shipped with others in a container. Shaper unknown, maybe MR? Classic representation of what was happening in the 80’s. (o) 7.5/10

I sold this recently to Cash Jack. Why is it sometimes when you buy, sell and or trade with a friend you feel that you tend to buy high and sell low with that friend? Or better written, you got the short end of the stick. What is the meaning behind this? He got a bargain on this CLEAN CLEAN MR. I wanted to share this board, as I guess I regret selling it. Almost a 10 with the exception of 1 pressure ding and small repair. Star System fins, cool T-Band etc. etc. All Original. I think he resold this board for a HUGE Profit. I am still waiting on my referral fee. (o) 9/10. I acquired this on E-Bay at a bargain, era early 80’s.

Well, this is as close of a 10 you are going to find on a early 1980’s MR Twinnie. All original with the Superman Lams, and a cooooollll deck swirl that tickles you from head to toe. Star System fins. This board is CLLLEEEEAAANNN!!! Again, a Cash Jack multiple board trade deal. I think he has burned out of the twin fins and is transitioning into the gun department. This would be a fun rider, but it is just way way to clean. (o) 10/10.

The other twinnie you have from Australia with the hand logo could be quite
rare. The hand logo was an early logo for "Midnight Oil" the rock band
who were massive in Australia throughout the 80-90’s. If it is under the glass
I’d suggest it was a promo board or a prize. Saying that I wouldn’t be surprised
if someone got it copied to put under the glass when made, as litigation wasn’t
such a big thing then.

subject: MR twin fin with Hand logo
Hi,
The hand silhouette on the MR tri fin is the early logo of the band Midnight Oil. It is a reference to lead singer and current Federal Minister for the Arts and the Environment Peter Garrett unique dance style. It is not uncommon to find ‘Oils’ hand logos on early 80’s boards. I just found one with ‘Section8’ sprayed on it, a reference to the Song ‘Bus to Bondi’. The board was almost certainly shaped by Bob Margrets in the Mad Dog factory in Byron Bay, Look for RM on the tail. MR was still competing early 80’s.
The Bolt MR is unbeleivably good. The two star fin boards were made under licence at G&S.

Have a 5’8″1982 MR Twin shaped by Robin Prodanavich at G&S. was in a storage unit in Escondido CA for Decades and had just nose n tail damage which I professionally fixed. It was only ever used a handful of times as evidenced by lack of deck pressures.
Came with Star Fins. Had MR sign it for me at Sacred Craft. Volume ok but way too short for me so I am not riding it and am thinking of selling it. any interest out there?
