Jamie O’Brien
If one were asked to explain Jamie O’Brien in a word, they might choose “explosive.” Whether being spit out of a seething Pipeline barrel, launching an air reverse six feet above the lip, or blowing up in front of a camera, Jamie’s surfing is a full frontal assault on the senses. There is a saying that “the person having the most fun in the water is the best surfer on any given day.”
O’Brien was born on June 9, 1983 in Hawaii and currently lives in Haleiwa. He has said that he was fortunate as a child to grow up near the Banzai Pipeline. He is one of the youngest surfers ever to win a Pipe Masters challenge.
Jamie’s father was a life guard and Jamie has said that one of the things that got him interested in surfing was talking to many of the regular surfers on his dads beach.
Some of his contest accomplishments include the Pipeline Masters in 2001, which he took 4th place even after just recovering from a knee injury, and first place at the 2003 Hansen’s Pipeline Pro in 2003 and first place in the 2004 Fosters Expression Trestles and Rip Curl Pipeline Masters.
O’Brien produced two surfing films, Freakshow and Freaside. He has appeared in Step Into Liquid and Blue Crush. He has made television appearances on MTV’s Boarding House/Stunt Surfer in 2005. Video and DVDs that he’s been in include Waxed Planet in 2005, Raising the Bar, Super Computer, The Mystic, The Next Generation and Califragulistic in 2004. In 2005 he made Campaign 2 and in 2006 as previously mentioned Freakside.
He travels the world, surfing amazing waves while making movies like his latest “Who is JOB”. He lives in front of one the best waves on the planet and is a standout at every session and contest. He spends his down time editing his movies, fishing, diving with sharks and enjoying the fruits of his surfing talents.

I acquired this J.O.B Personal rider out of Hawaii 2010/11 season. I believe this is one of his bigger pipe boards as it has some girth and weight to it. All the sponsor logo’s etc. I have take it for a spin and to be honest, kind of a pig. Yet I rode it in 3 foot mushy HB slop and not 8-10 foot throating pipe. Big difference I guess. If Jaime knew this he would be calling me the pig, which is clearly the case here.. – my bad! |
