Small Faces

Small Faces

Petrillo moved to Texas to build boards there and we started manufacturing SMALL FACES Surfboards. The concept was that instead of one person’s name on a board there were a lot of small faces that worked to make these surfboards, interchangeable faces, plus Rod Stewart’s band, Faces, was popular at the time.”

“Our shaper back then was Steve McGregor, who shaped for us maybe 4-5 years, then a guy name Bobby Kazanis. He shaped for years. He is one of the best shapers on the West Coast to this day, but he never had the political acclaim in the industry and didn’t play well in that circle. But he has the abilities of any of the top shapers from that era. He still shapes today in Huntington.”

This is a great example of the double box Aipa stinger swallow tail from SF.  Check out the double fin box so one can have a fin placed way up for those Mike Purpose, Larry Bertlemann 360’s mid-face.  There is a lot goin on with this board, but at first glance, looks not.  Check out the flared Redwood Stringer. the unique SF Ink Lam and of course the Stingers.  All original and great peace to own and ride. I acquired this out of Encinitas, San Diego from a low-key Surfboard / Skate Collector. I was drawn to this board because of the California Gun template outline swallow tail. White flared Resin Pin lines.  Clean and original with the exception of tail repair. (o) 8 1970’s

Ebay purchase a few years back during my start up hoarding days.  Just to then sell it to my friend who has the same and worst case of hoarding than I do.   But, regardless a cool 80’s twinnie. Classic fiberglass fins, bitchen deck airbrush. Great example of of the 80’s were all about. All original. (o) 8

Not really collectable but it was one of those finds where it just tickled me and I acquired it on impulse.  What drew me in was the color combo swirl on the bottom with the clear white foam S-Dome Deck.  Original fin with leash hole at the base.  In great shape, all original 1969-71 era.  What is even more bitchen is the Pineapple Express Sticker applied at some point of time.  Classic 420 representation.   What is your take on this small pintail disc?
